Advanced Topical Meetings
NordStruct invites applications to organize Advanced Topical Meetings in structural biology. The aim is to bring together leading scientists, advanced junior researchers, and facility managers from across the Nordic region to address focused technical and methodological challenges within or across disciplines.
Meetings are designed to strengthen Nordic collaboration, accelerate methodological innovation, and support training and networking in structural biology and related fields. A minimum of seven meetings will be funded during the 2026–2030 period.
Each meeting is a two-day event with ~30 participants (~15 senior researchers and ~15 advanced junior researchers/facility staff). A minimum 80% of participants must be from within the NordStruct network. The topical meeting should be structured around four to eight expert-led discussion sessions, creating an interactive and dynamic environment in which to explore methodological challenges. Sessions are focused around specific scientific questions, with a short introductory presentation (5-10 minutes), followed by a group discussion.
Applicants must submit:
- Meeting proposal (max 2 pages) including:
- Scientific challenge and state-of-the-art
- Description of the expected target group
- Objectives and expected outcomes
- Proposed program structure (four to eight sessions)
- Name of the session leaders and suggested session topics
- A description of the organizing committee
- Proposed location and dates
- Budget (using this template)
- Short CV of main applicant (max 1 page)
Annual call deadlines:
Applicants must:
- Be a Principal Investigator (PI) at a NordStruct partner institution
- Include an organizing committee with members from at least two Nordic countries
- Demonstrate expertise in the proposed topic area
- Ensure the meeting is held in the Nordic region
- Align with structural biology or closely related fields
Applications are evaluated on:
- Innovative potential and scientific importance of the topic
- Potential for novel collaborations
- The relevance to the Nordic Research community
- Feasibility and quality of organization
- Diversity and balance across topics, session leaders and expected target group
Each approved meeting receives up to 130,000 NOK, and can cover:
Mandatory costs the budget must cover:
- Venue, accommodation and catering costs associated with hosting the meeting
- Travel for invited session leaders
Optional costs the budget can cover:
- Travel support for participants from within the network
Additional in-kind support is provided by NordStruct partners, including participant time and preparation. The main applicant is expected to contribute two weeks of coordination time and each participant is expected to contribute two days of participation time. These will be reported to NordForsk as in-kind contributions.
Administrative coordination is handled by the University of Copenhagen. This includes support for promotion, registration, travel, accommodation, venue and catering.
Funding is reimbursed after the meeting upon submission of documented eligible expenses, and within three months after the meeting. Accommodation, venue and catering costs can be invoiced directly to the University of Copenhagen by prior agreement.
Organizers must submit a short post-meeting report summarizing:
- Participation
- Scientific outcomes
- Collaboration and impact
